DEF Scholar: James Earl Kiawoin

James KiawoinAge: 15
Gender: Male
Home country: Monrovia, Liberia
Activities: Football, travel, entrepreneurship

The youngest student at ALA, James has an ambitious plan to form football academies in Africa that will develop and prepare local talent to play on a global scale and to become community leaders.

James’ Dream:

John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”. I consider myself to be a leader, an agent of positive change. I have positively impacted the lives of people and children by the series of projects I have done in community service such tutor children who have gone on to achieve good results in their exams. I have also been a role model for others: I graduated from high school at aged 14 and my story has been used by the media to encourage Liberian children ravaged by the war, to return to school. My story has encouraged people to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more.

After African Leadership Academy, I intend to study economics, international relations and political science. I dream of creating a pan-African Football Academy. The purpose of the Football Academy will be to provide a safe environment for children from war-torn African countries that are at risk of being used as child soldiers.
