Julius plans to fix Africa, one farm at a time. He recently completed a successful project in a settlement by creating a pilot farm on less than an acre of land growing carrots, spinach, beans and potatoes.
Julius’ Dream:
I grew up in an environment where young people have no voice despite the abilities and talents they possess. I believe this environment prepared me to be a leader.
I am passionate about the role of youth in entrepreneurship and development and strongly believe young people can make an entrepreneurial contribution in bringing about economic, social and political development in Africa. I have witnessed the impact that restrictions, structures and bureaucracy can have by preventing young people from making their dreams a reality. I recall talking to the Tanzanian Minister of Home Affairs during my holiday project and he echoed my view that the ideas of young people are often too easily discounted because of their youth.
I believe that change comes through action. I am a co-founder of an organization called DARECHA which inspires young people to believe in themselves and encourages them to bring about positive changes in their lives and in their communities. It is my dream that this entrepreneurial approach will bring about economic development and will one day grow into a large organization that will begin to address poverty in Tanzania and Africa.
