Beneficiaries: Program Approach
In keeping with D.E.F.’s mission of supporting education initiatives that develop and empower those most disadvantaged in African nations where diamonds are a natural resource, the organization will look to fund projects that have proven success in providing African youth with high-quality educational experiences, including skill-building and vocational training initiatives.
A philosophical and pragmatic commitment to self-determination will be important to D.E.F. as it takes a partnership approach to selecting organizations that will be recipients of funding. We will look for efforts where there is a proven history of educational excellence, sound administrative management, and a clearly articulated financial need.
Stabilization and sustainability will also be critical factors in D.E.F.’s programmatic approach, including examining the various life factors that impact a young person’s educational success (proper nutrition, transportation, clothing, health, educational supplies and fees). Successful initiatives that could be replicable through D.E.F.’s support will also be a high priority for funding.
To further the goal of having a significant and measurable impact on beneficiary organizations, D.E.F. will choose a small number of projects at a time as the focus of its granting efforts.
