DEF’s Beneficiaries
D.E.F.’s Beneficiary Organizations are CIDA City Campus and African Leadership Academy.
In keeping with D.E.F.’s mission of supporting education initiatives that develop and empower those most disadvantage in African nations where diamonds are a natural resource, the organization looks to fund projects that have proven success in providing African youth with high-quality education, including skill building and vocational training initiatives. In addition to providing funding, D.E.F. endeavors to promote the important work of its beneficiary schools and share the stories of the extraordinary students that are empowered through these institutions.
A philosophical and pragmatic commitment to self-determination is important to D.E.F. as it takes a partnership approach in selecting organizations that will be recipients of educational excellence, sound administrative management, and a clearly articulated financial need.
To further the goal of having a significant and measurable impact in its granting efforts, D.E.F. has two named beneficiaries thus far in South Africa: CIDA City Campus (CIDA) and the African Leadership Academy (ALA).
In 2009, DEF established a scholarship program for students from diamond producing nations in Africa to attend the African Leadership Academy (ALA). Meet the DEF Scholars
